LOGLINE

At 95, George looks back on his life before putting on a concert for fellow seniors, reflecting on his lifelong connection with music and song.

ABOUT

George Smail is 95 years old. He still has his health, and what’s more, he still plays piano and sings every day. George can be found giving weekly hour-long concerts for his fellow seniors in his residence, and while he has a vast repertoire of old standards and popular songs, particularly from his native Scotland, he still teaches himself new ones. In this documentary short, George looks back on his remarkable life; from surviving the bombing of Glasgow during the second World War, to meeting his wife May, having children, and emigrating half-way across the world to Vancouver, British Columbia for a better life; through it all, music has been a constant. After his wife passed away in 2020, and after moving into his seniors residence, music for George has become a refuge, but remains a gift to be shared.
